Review of Vivian, Louisiana

It's not perfect, but you can raise a family inexp

I have lived in Vivan, Louisiana for 5 years now. I am a born and raised California woman of 37 years. I was looking for a slower paced life and someplace to raise my last child without dodging bullets on the streets or worrying about what color my child was wearing.
Vivian is a small town with hard working people on the whole. There is a Wal-Mart, Sonic, Subway, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, Outlaw Bar-B-Que, Two home town grocery stores, two gas stations, Family Dollar, and a Dollar General.
The DMV is located here in town and so is a hospital and medical clinic. There are no long waits for most of the services here. Even getting the oil changed is very quick here. People are friendly and customer oriented( which is hard to find these days). There are also two banks , a movie rental store, a rent to own store, two pharmacies, an elementary/ middle school and a high school. The town has a hardware store, several tire stores and a post office. We have a chinese restraunt and a mexican food restraunt. All of this is located in a 1 mile radius in town.
The town is a great place to look at to start a new buisness. The property and buildings are very affordable. In fact, it is probley better to buy one of the buildings and be your own owner. People here like to spend money and we are need more buisness that will be open on the weekends and for places that we can take our children.
The houses are inexpensive. My mortage in California was $1,300 a month. Here my mortage is $354.00 a month. Like I said earlier, people can afford to live here.
I am looking forward to new people with new ideas to move into the area. I see so much potiental for this town and it's to bad I don't have the resources to make this town even better. I would love to see new homes built, a family fitness center with a indoor pool would be nice, another daycare facility, a larger hardware store with weekend hours,a theater, a dog grooming/boarding place, and more people from different backgrounds.
I have not had to dodge any bullets, dress my child in only certain colors, have bars on my windows, or drive in congested traffic since I have lived here. The best thing is that I can get all of my errands done quickly because of the location of everything here. So I would have to say " It's not perfect here, but it's affordable.

my husband and I are looking at possibly relocating there from central Kansas, trying escape the cold. Hubby is retired from the phone company and a former Marine. I own a dog grooming shop here and would love to open one there. Iam 53 and husband is 75. We love the close knit, slow pace of small town living. We found a house on Realtor.com we are really interested in. Hoping to fly down and have a look around soon. Michelle Russell, Kansas
