Waterbury, CT is simply put, an old factory city. There is a deep past here with a large range of ethnic backgrounds. Waterbury was once called the Brass City or Brass Capital of the world! No longer even close to the truth. The city had some dark times crime wise in the 90's but has since come a long way. It actually has the lowest violent crime rate out of all the major CT cities (excluding Stamford). There actually is a lot to do here, not to mention that it is pretty much directly in between Boston and New york (be prepared to either be a Sox fan or a Yank!)One thing I must say that Waterbury is well known for is it's pizza! You will not find a better city for that and believe me, I have done my fare share of traveling. The school system is aweful, so if you want to live here w/ kids, plan on private school. Plenty of resturants, movie theaters a big mall and that kind of stuff. Some great golf courses too. The best thing about Waterbury is the real estate. Check out the homes you can get for the price!! Insane! Taxes are a little high, but keep in mind that some neighborhoods arent too great. Stick to Bunker Hill, Town Plot/Counrty Club or East End....& forget the rest! All of the surrounding towns around Waterbury are top notch and excellent places to live (Middlebury, Cheshire, Southbury)!
