Review of Tucson, Arizona

Tucson really is Toosad
Star Rating - 9/6/2020
Just a short warning about this place.

This is coming from a multiple degreed straight man who lived in Toosad for several years. Some of this has probably changed I have not been there in several years, but I can only imagine it's gotten worse because the population here is just not very good.

If you just want a place with hot, sunny weather and little or no winter and have an independent income AND have a partner, it offers good weather (if you like hot and dry) and relatively inexpensive living costs.

But that's all you'll get. Tucson, also known by locals as Toosad is infested with snakes, not the slithering kind but the two legged kind. Has one of the highest social deviance scores based on suicide, alcoholism, divorce and crime of any city in the Nation. Very high AS*ho*le quotient, just a lot of bad people who will F*ck u over in an instant. No moral compass to speak of.

A corrupt city government who just want to be left alone to exercise their incompetency. Corrupt lawyers who violate client confidentiality.

A police state with a lot of bad cops on the take from mafia type businesses such as strip clubs, slumlords, etc. Several of them have been charged in past year for serious crimes.

Lots of drug activity and crime, but mostly confined to certain areas, but spreading all over the city. Lots of shootings.

Schools suck, AZ has a rep for having the some of the worst schools in the Country.

Toosad is a lot like Mexico in many respects. Dirty, run down, corrupt and low standards.

Lots of slumlords that the City refuses to do anything about their taking advantage of tenants. Be careful who you rent from. Be prepared for them to try to rip you off in one way or another. Taxi companies with no regulation-you're on your own here, the local morons in gov. will do nothing for you.

Formerly home to mafia don Bonano and it shows.

University that really sucks unless you are in one of the few majors for which there is a research interest. Emphasis is on their stupid athletic teams, and research for profit, not on education. Discriminatory against older students, it's like a movie version of what a university should be-a place to party for young people, nothing for anyone that does not fit into the mold they want. Teaching sucks. Campus cops routinely violate civil rights of non students on campus.

The lawyers in this town are scumbag liars with no ethics. There are some good ones but not many.

Hard to find a good doctor or hospital here. Lots of incompetence and non-professional behavior across all professions in Toosad.
Veterinarians with no ethical standards-they care about money, not about your pets, with some noteable exceptions.

On the plus side. Lots of supermarkets to keep the prices reasonable. Lots of health clubs-try finding one that is well managed and clean. Not far from the mountains or from Mexican border (if you don't care much about your safety).

Very spread out with not much of a highway system. Traffic bad and rapidly getting wors as is the air pollution.

Don't come here to raise kids if u value your children.

Employers treat you like you're an illegal immigrant mostly. Unless you have special skills that are in demand. Wages are low.

You will feel like a minority here if you're white and not Hispanic.

In sum, it's a crap City for anyone who has any values.

Ahhh...I was waiting for the lines that clearly identified you as ... how should I put it? Not fully embracing a diverse population. I am 60, my wife is 26 and we are looking for a place to live where it is warm and sunny, plenty of spots to walk, bike and hike. Where all types of folks live in as much harmony as you can expect these days..., young, old, brown, white, rich, poor. Sounds like Tucson might be that place for us. Another poster mention the NW of town..I also hear Oro Valley is nice. I will be semi retiring but will have an opportunity to consult in the cyber-security field... she is a Paralegal and sounds like there are plenty of law firms! We will be looking for a house in the $750k range. We cant wait to move away from cold and snowy new england.

to the two responders to this person's post firstly is a very liberal city is one of the most liberal cities in the United States. Noam Chomsky the Communist professor from Cambridge Massachusetts i.e. MIT/Harvard lives in Tucson these days. It is the most liberal city in the southwest for certain. To the autoresponder from New England who came back with this snide remark about his perceptions of acorn by our world in the American Southwest is only someone from New England from a lily white state like Connecticut there was say something so stupid and uninformed. On a 60-year-old guide myself but I have lived all over the United States for the last 20 years in the Southwest including Tucson and Phoenix and Las Vegas and several other cities that are heavily populated with minorities I can assure you they do not like you. It's not a matter of fitting in or getting a longer any of these colloquialisms that liberal white people like to say in the real world the way it actually works is you are eyeballed in the parking lot lot your look down upon your challenge to fights you are tailgated and if you're white you are an outcast. You have to remember that Hispanics view the United States as Europeean invaders that took their homeland which by the way is true incidentally in case anyone doesn't remember their history. So when you get a bunch of antagonistic ethnic groups all thrown together and the dominant population is nonwhite there is always going to be conflict the matter whether it's Los Angeles or San Francisco Phoenix Tucson New York City Philadelphia I could go on and on but particularly the case that Hispanics are extraordinarily antagonistic so you can call me with your open-minded police from your q. week or estate in Wilton Connecticut where all of her neighbors were lily white blond hair Irish neighbors named O'Shaughnessy and you think you're going to be the white guy that shows up 60 miles away from the Mexican border and you're not going to have any problems I can assure you got another thing coming. And those not just me it's everyone I know I'm talking about thousands and thousands of white people that I've spoken to because I was here you don't. So this particular posters message may seem negative but it's true. Diversity keeps cohesion at bay and the southwest of the United States is representative of this dynamic in spades
