Review of Coal City, Illinois

Life in Coal City :)
Star Rating - 12/21/2010
Coal City is a nice quiet little town where people mostly mind their own business. There are plenty of community events, this is a great place to live if you have young children! The local library is great! They offer so many kid friendly activities, esp during the summer! The town offers a community clothes closet where you can donate/pick out free clothes, toys, and household items...every holiday season they offer a free breakfast with Santa and your kids get a free picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus (they get a free gift too)...there is a community food pantry if you need help you can go once a month and get free food and a voucher for the local grocery store(Berkots- kind of pricey unless they're having a sale)...We go do our main grocery shopping in Morris about 20 mins away...Also, the schools here are very good! The teachers are great and so is the curriculum! There is a local daycare center, but I would prefer the one on Rt 47 about 12 mins away (Dawn of a New Daycare)...there is a gymnastics center for kids, two dance studios, and many sports teams to join! There are a few diff restaurants in the area...La Piazza is awesome, and so is the Golden Mine, which is 10 mins away in Braidwood...The summers are hot and winters are freezing! There are a bunch of parks to choose from here...and if you want to go to the mall or bigger store chains they're about 30 mins away...I'm sure there is more, but I can't think of much else right now besides the fact that this IS a smaller town and it can be hard to find work here, so you may have to travel like 15 mins or more for work...
