Review of Ellington, Connecticut

Star Rating - 1/25/2008
I have lived in Ellington for 21 years, am married and have 3 children. I am also a Realtor, Sallie Cappadora, with RE/Max East of the River (860-830-8894 is my cell). Being a Realtor it would be easy for my family to live anywhere, but we chose Ellington for the people, housing, crime, climate, education, recreation, etc. I live in a community where I walk every day with my dog, often with neighbors whom also own dogs. My children have loved having many friends in the neighborhood to share Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, baseball, socceer, dance and many other activities with, and we carpool for transportation. There is a park close enough to walk to with football, baseball and socceer fields, tennis, & playground equipment. Crystal Lake is nearby for swimming and boating. Johnny Appleseed is nearby for picking apples, hay rides and pumpkin picking. There are summer concerts at Arbor Park. The Fair on the Green in May is very popular with crafts and activities for children. The library is fabulous and has story hour for the children. The Firemen's Fair in September brings the entire town out with rides for the children, a variety of games, food and firetrucks from about 12 surrounding towns. There is a Farmer's Market for fresh summer produce. We have a brand new Big Y supermarket. It is a rural town of about 13,000 people, but major shopping centers are within a 15 minutes drive. We are about 1 hour from Boston and 1.5 hours from New York. Hartford is 30 minutes drive and the place that a lot of people work. Ellington was voted in Connecticut Magazine for the 5th best town for populations between 10,000 and 15,000 for categories such as education, crime, economy, cost of living, & leisure. Many of my clients will move from one house in Ellington to another in the same town because they love it! My children excelled in the Ellington school system and got into all the colleges they applied to. We have delightful spring and fall weather and summers and winters are fairly moderate. We enjoy the change of season very much. I moved 20 times before I turned 20 years of age- maybe that's why I am a Realtor. But obviously Ellington offers something special for this Realtor as I have remained here for 21 years!
