Review of Martinsburg, West Virginia

Beautiful Country, Bad Governance
Star Rating - 11/15/2020
We moved to Martinsburg for retirement, and we love it. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the other comments in this list. People are unlikely to stay, given the lack of jobs, drug use, and a downtown that looks terrible. So, having seen all these complaints posted by long term residents, why did everyone vote for this awful governor in 2020? Apparently, he's had the opportunity to improve the city, but he just doesn't care.

FWIW, I think they are trying but they lacked revenue to make improvements. Taxes are generally low here, so you get what you get. With money and growth coming inro the Panhandle howevee, they are now fixing roads, for ex. My biggest concern is the obvious lack of planning to manage the growth. We're gwtting congestion, now because of the new housing coming in long before good road systems....but....you need the property taxes to put in roads, etc. See the problem? I predict that zoning will inevitably come to the Panhandle, which is a good thing IMHO. No more dumps next to housing developments or strip clubs next to schools. What were these old timers thinking? Lol.
