Review of Elburn, Illinois

Elburn-Small Town Feel but High Taxes
Star Rating - 3/26/2024
Elburn has been growing in population within the past 5 years. Houses are being built all around. More people, more traffic. One grocery store, several nice restaurants, two pharmacies, Dollar store, meat market, two gas stations, ice cream shop, several churches, and cute little browsing type shops. Elburn still has that small town feel and it's very safe to walk around the town. Hospitals are within neighboring towns which are around 20-30 minutes away.
Schools are ok and bulk of the real estate taxes (approx. 80%) go toward the school district which they are always proposing for more tax dollars. The taxpayer has to be diligently aware as to what they sneak unto the ballot and vote accordingly. My real estate taxes have gone up every year for the past 20 years. We now pay $12,000 in real estate taxes for a simple ranch home.
The weather is typical Northern Illinois weather, one day it snows and the next its warm and you're not wearing a jacket. Summers can be humid, but it doesn't last long. Falls are normally beautiful weather and pumpkins abound. Winters are way too long. Snow is cleared off the roads pretty quickly and salt treatment can be heavy.
The police department is awesome as well at the fire department. The police are known to keep a keen watch out for even a stranger who is walking through town that looks suspicious. You don't want to speed through town because you'll most likely get a traffic ticket.
The Metra Train line from Chicago/Western burbs ends at Elburn which makes it an easy commute Eastward.
Not much for employment available but neighboring towns have plenty of openings.
If it weren't for the cost of living and more people flooding the area, it would be a nice place to live and work.
