Review of Lumberton, Mississippi

Lumberton: not so bad, at all
Star Rating - 12/14/2017
We moved to Lumberton two years ago, for retirement purposes.

Pros:

Mostly quiet, except for the ambulance hurrying to who knows where.
Really inexpensive city services. Water, sewer, and garbage for $36.xx a month. The city picks up tree limbs at curbside for free.
Very inexpensive housing available to buy.
Minimal, nearly adequate shopping available. Market, hardware store, 3 restaurants, garage, dentist, medical clinic that is very easy to get into.
No traffic lights or jams.
Great freeway access to everywhere. New Orleans, beaches, etc. Usually uncrowded freeways.
Wonderful, friendly people that will go out of their way to help you.
Crime, excepting drugs, is not evident.
Green most of the time. Adequate rainfall, big winds, tornados are not typical.
Very mild winters. Hot southern summers.

Cons:

No jobs. Definite lack of opportunities. Hattiesburg usually begging for workers. It's a busy place. Almost every store you could want.
Due to state politics, high school may close. Not done yet.
Small town politics reign supreme. Sometimes good, sometimes bad.
Not enough businesses. Frequent trips to Hattiesburg, 20 miles, great freeway.
Racial undercurrents still evident. This is still the south.
Humidity, humidity, humidity.
Electric and gas not as reasonable as they could be.
Property tax not cheap, sales tax, etc.
No recycling opportunities.

I like it, but I don't need a local job.
