Review of Marana, Arizona

An update to some if the info on this website
Star Rating - 3/17/2024
I've lived in "old" Marana for 25 years. These forms don't explain there's the old original town, which is now going nuts in growth of houses and "clean" businesses. New Marana borders the north border of Tucson and it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. Giant stores like Walmart are in the new part of town, about 10 miles south. We like old Marana, including an active and very nice Senior Center. A supermarket is under construction, and several small markets have been here for years. What upset me about this website was the weather analysis given: Two summers ago (2022) our outdoor thermometer, which went up to 120°F was not good enuf. We found, thanks to global warming, they now manufacture thermometers up to 130°. Also, the rainfall is really weird around here. There can be rain a mile away, but our garden remains dry, month after month. Monsoon season, giant summer thunderstorms, seems also to be changing and all is much drier than it was. So far people act like there's not water problem, but, let's face it, this is the Sonoran DESERT and the climate is producing less and less rainfall. So if you love a nice green lawn, don't move here! If you love madly blooming desert wildflower in the springtime and a "false" spring near the beginning of Autumn, you'll love it here, with winter being mostly like spring elsewhere. There are quite a few golf courses, good library system. It's a hotspot for birders with Mexican species coming north of the border to add to your Life List. And, with 4 or 5 species of doves, there's a hunting season for them because the weather allows them to nest 2/3 times a year. The USDA climate rating is now 9b, used to be 9a. It's getting warmer, folks.
