The worst city/town I have ever lived in
Star Rating - 3/10/2021
I have unfortunately lived here for 11 years now. I would like to add, that I have lived in almost every state in the union, so I have been around a bit. The quality of life here is bad. Very bad. It is noisy, traffic is beyond hell, and the zoning is horrible. The fire department uses a TORNADO SIREN to notify the volunteer firefighters of a fire call (ever considered cell phones, pagers?). This siren is VERY loud, and goes off a dozen times of day and in the middle of the night. Main street is the only east/west way in/out of here, and leads into Red Lion as well. One lane each direction with ON-STREET parking! Pleasant avenue is the main north/south road, and is also one lane each direction with on-street parking! Nothing like trying to dodge parked cars and oncoming traffic at the same time. These streets have not been widened since the dirt road/horse and buggy times - really, you can see them in historical photos. If they refuse to widen the road, they could at least get rid of on-street parking to make it safer to drive on. They choose to accommodate the parking of a few, and endanger thousands of daily drivers. The zoning: businesses do not make good neighbors. They make a lot of noise, bring in additional traffic, and fill their property with rubbish. Business owners live elsewhere, so they could care less about disturbing their neighbors. The borough of Dallastown sees no problem in allowing them right in the middle of a neighborhood amongst homes where people live. The water bills are crazy high (rates), and getting higher every quarter for some new reason. $1000 annually for minimal water usage. Then, you have the outrageous trash and sewer bills - same story. They actually charge all adults $20 a year just to exist here - seriously. AVOID!

Yep, it sucks. What's sad is that the "leaders" could change a great bit of what is wrong: the zoning, the parking on narrow streets, trucks using Jake-brakes on Main St., and the freaking siren. These are easy fixes. City leaders could change these things quickly and easily. They won't though. They collect a salary and that's it. Come back in 20 years and everything will be the same.
