First of all, I wasn't able to 'select' my city of Loranger, Louisiana...this may be due to the fact that it is unincorporated territory (but then again, since certain information is available under the name 'Loranger', perhaps it should be a choice). Subsequently, I was basically 'strong-armed' into choosing the nearest town of Independence. This is neither here nor there. I'm concerned about the (violent)crime status for Loranger.
Loranger was rated a #3 on a scale of 1 to 10. I can only assume that this is from few isolated incidents involving high school students(age and the fact that our institutions have a '0 Tolerance' policy may be accounted for). Even if that is the case, compared to National statistics, I'm sure we are below the previously rated '3'. We needn't lock doors (home or car), we not only look out for each other's property, but each other's children. I've lived in Loranger for about 10 years, and I've never felt safer...esp. in my hometown of New Orleans (born and raised for 29 of my 38 years). Not only would I not go back to New Orleans (after Katrina, I really don't see a reason that anyone would...in terms of feeling safe, that is), but I've come to realize that I just can't stand being in a larger city.
Also, being in the miniscule 11 (and some odd)% of the African-American community, I love my small town; I love (most of) the people, and I love having peace of mind. My children have received a more than decent education (having previously homeschooled because of the lack of adequate education from the N.O. Public School System), and I praise our educators to the fullest. Loranger is a perfect fit for anyone wanting to live the absolute American dream of a safe home, loving family and friends, and a calm and serene existence. But that's just my opinion.
