Review of Beattyville, Kentucky

Life in Lee county Kentucky
Star Rating - 6/24/2010
Lee county Kentucky was rated by some university studies as the fourth worst county in the nation to rear children. High, chronic unemployment. Drugs. Lack of education. No hope of a real future. All of these things lead me to believe that Lee county is so primitive as to be considered part of the third world. The things it has in common with these places of desolation? Lack of infrastructure. Lack of services. Institutionalized corruption. The enemployed and the hopelessness that allows it to be accepted.

I've lived in rural Lee county for four years. I lived in a cabin that I couldn't get electricity to because of the laziness of county officials and nonchalant attitude toward a young couple whose wife was pregnant. The cabin was literally surrounded by electric lines and the local electric coop refused to run lines to the house. I can go to any other place in the world and if I am a paying customer, I can get electricity. Not so in Lee county Kentucky.
