Review of Halfmoon, New York

Nice...but not for much longer
Star Rating - 8/20/2007
Grew up in Halfmoon, lived here for nearly 25 years. I have family stretching back about 150 years in the area. It's another one of those cases where developers got a hold of a good thing and overpopulated the town with uniform housing units. Most of the wage earnings are from working in Albany, half the town commutes 30 plus minutes a day. Essentially it's a depository for state workers with kids, a lab, and a mortgage. It's a nice place but housing prices have gotten a bit crazy. What used to be a corn field or dairy farm is a development starting in the $350k range.

Positives - close to Saratoga...train to Boston or NYC. Adirondacks are close, the parks are great. Education is top notch from pre-school to college.

I'm thinking of moving to New England. I think my biggest problem is with state government, the high taxes, the uber development rate, the surrounding trashy areas (I'm calling you out, Schenectady and Albany!)...etc etc. They probably have the same issues...maybe I won't stop until I hit the Atlantic...

If your main goals right now are to raise kids, have a mortgage, attend soccer games, and have job security...by all means...

I am a single woman living in Halfmoon Heritage and was trying to find out crime rate specific to this complex and the Halfmoon area. I wasn't able to determine that on your site. Would you please refer me to a site where I can locate this information,
