Review of Benton, Kentucky

Why we moved here from the Southwest
Star Rating - 11/5/2008
We were looking for a cute small town (pop. under 10,000), low crime, and moderate winters. By "cute" I mean that the Main Street has lots of locally owned small thriving businesses, a Court House on the square and a Rexall that delivers prescriptions and a lunch counter!! Benton is the County Seat and is a bustling community. Even though Benton is only 15 minutes(!) from Kentucky Lake, we are not a touristy area, which we like. We found property here to be very affordable, and were able to buy a beautiful large home on 4 acres within the city limits. The people here are very nice and very friendly. Most of the people grew up here so it takes a little while to be accepted, and that is okay. (This is the Bible Belt and if you attend Church you are more readily accepted.) It is beautiful here in Western Ky. We just love it here !!! If I could change one thing...it would be a closer airport. Nashville is 2 hours+ away and that is the closest. St Louis 3+, Louisville 3. It is a beautiful drive to Nashville and worth the trade offs, we love the quality of life here.

Thumbs Down
It seems like a nasty town ever since it decided to be a sundown town back in 1914. Pretty...
