Review of Blackstone, Virginia

Blackstone is undergoing a transformation
Star Rating - 4/26/2009
If you have not ventured to the quaint little town just off or route 460 East, you may want to in the near future. Blackstone is a designated Main Street Community and is undergoing major improvements to its historic building stock and is seeing a tremendous surge in private investment in its downtown core. Revitalization is in full swing and is slated to complete phase 1 by the end of October 2009. The town is completing a new Bon Secours Medical Center and several other grant projects and new businesses are opening up and existing ones are expanding. I guess we missed the memo about the economic downturn. Blackstone is a charming little town with historic Schwartz tavern and the Thomas Carriage museum as its major tourist attractions. Although Bobby Daniels' running of the trains is an annual event that has taken on a life of its own. He sets up an intricate miniature train display in the local Bevells Ace hardware store and the display includes miniature buildings that actually exist in the downtown. This train display attracts people from all around and even from abroad. The display goes up the week after Thanksgiving and groups call in advance to for tours.
