Review of Moose Lake township, Minnesota

nice place to visit, but not to live
Star Rating - 4/20/2012
Very small town, pretty, but nothing much to offer, except to the sportsman. The area is very close knit, meaning everybody here is related in some way. They all know each other's business, and yours! If you are an outsider, you don't matter. Watch Out! some businesses take advantage of visitors or new comers!

There are little to no substantial jobs in this town, only retail. The biggest employer is the hospital, the school, and the prison (yes, and it's a sex offender prison) most people keep their jobs, until they retire. If they don't know you, you'll have trouble being hired!
There is only one place that teenagers will find work, at the Dairy Queen, all other part-time jobs are held by needy adults! This is a poor town, everybody is hustling! Some have two or more jobs, and are also trying to sell Avon, or something, too. The cost of living here is quite HIGH! There is nothing around so the local merchants "have you by the balls"! The local pharmacies close at 5! Along with many other businesses! Close early on Saturday, and closed on Sundays!

You must drive 30 miles north to the nearest town (Cloquet) where you can find, a major grocery store, and Wal-mart, and other fast food places! Or drive another 20 minutes to Hermantown/Duluth for major shopping such as a mall, Menards, Kohls, etc. The town is pretty stagnant in growth, populated mostly by low-income families, and senior citizens, watch out for some really slow, and crazy drivers....
This town has only two fast food restaurants and they are Dairy Queen and Subways, and town council have no desire to add any new places! Meaning no new job opportunities! The medical care is mediocre!

After living here for two years we're looking to move! Even though it's a small quiet town, it has no future, especially if you have older children, there is not much for them to do. Which leaves time for sex and drugs! If they are not involved in sports or school activities!
The Elementary school is top shelf, but sadly when your children get to the middle and high school, the quality is poor. Most of the young people leave the town after high school and college. So sad for this town's future!

This town mostly thrives on tourism, with people from the Twin Cities spending their summers here. So given the climate, economy, and gas prices, town income heavily depends on this.

It's a nice place to visit, it's not a great place to live.
