Living in Muskogee, you will see many cops at roadblocks, and pulling people over, to help get the funding they need to hire more cops, and you will have access to lakes in the surrounding areas, like Ft.Gibson dam, and Wahoo lake, and syquaha bay, and Jackson bay, but watch for water moccasins (snakes), and the roads here are really bad, even when they "repair" a road, it has waves on it, they say it's because there's a trolly under the streets,(I never heard of that before), and you have a casino to go to, and a few bars, and a couple of malls, and a few food places to see. If you own a trailer (even a travel trailer), you MUST have cement under it, or they will make you move it to a trailer park (even if you own the property its on),and you will have to pay 175.00 a month for the space, and 300.00 to hook up the electric, and about 50.00 for the water, if you dont want to go to a trailer park to park your travel trailer, you can go to a RV park, and it only cost you 22.00 on up a day. Who is that rich? Jobs are: fast foods, and sometimes construction sites will hire you, maybe a hotel will have an opening, and nursing homes. other then that, jobs are not too good here. theres a problem with drugs here also, most people are "making" their own, i guess the real stuff is too high, I wouldnt really know, and some kids want to be in a gang, and be like the bigger cities, but as I said before..we have plenty of cops to catch them right away, but at times, they just get a slap on the wrist and sent back out to try again. If you are a machanic..you will do very good here, we need lots of machanics, but if you cant work cheap, then who can really hire you? the roads will keep you in business, and if you have a tow truck, you will make money, towing the persons car at the road block, that had an expired insurance paper,if you have a property that the "city" wants, they will condenm your house and buy it cheap and build housing houses on it and make lots of money, I used to really love this town, but that was in 1977, since then, it has become a mess. its a ok place to visit, but save yourself, dont move here, the houses are cheap, because nobody wants to stay here long.

You hit the nail on the head metha. there's too many police offers here, not to count they're very corrupt. you're also correct on the tow truck. my daughter's have lost several cars in the past 10 years because of the towing companies here. i've lived in muskogee for over 34 years and i ask myself daily how i stayed this long. my kids go to tulsa a lot and people will ask where they're from and when they tell them from muskogee they roll their eyes...i think i stay here because i've grown old here but still think every day about leaving, but my family lives in oregon and if you think it's bad in muskogee don't go to oregon. it's even worse. i get where you're coming from though metha. there's damn sure a lot of bad stuff here.

I don't know what this persons hang up is with cops. I've never seen a road block in four years of being in Muskogee. The estimation of roads is spot on and we do have many decent parks in the near vicinity. Muskogee is in a renaissance of sorts. Leadership is making a number of good decisions to encourage growth however, they need to major on the major issues instead of smaller ones. For example, we are located in a triangle of three really significant and well traveled highways, have a great airport with a 7500' runway and also have a port with access to the Gulf of Mexico. Why then, can't we attract good businesses which have the ability to pay decent wages? Coupled with this is the quality of life (I believe they are working harder on this issue than others) in Muskogee. Although we have recently seen new restaurants come to Muskogee among other new retail establishments, you need to have the higher paying jobs to support these businesses. In order to accomplish the above, we need to focus on improving our school systems. Don't misunderstand me, we do have a number of good schools, however, we need this to be more universal and with a dual purpose to train students with advanced skills (anyone thinking about the emerging renewable energy sector? Wind turbine techs are paid 40 to 50+ K) and to prepare college bound students for the challenges of obtaining higher education. I am really pulling for Muskogee, as it is on the precipice for greatness. We just need some committed businesses and residents to challenge the status quo and energize leadership with fresh energy and ideas. Best thing about Muskogee: the cost of living is relatively low!
