Elk has a post office, vfw, and a store. Millers. Sure there's a couple other small business, but no more than 5 all together. I spend most my free time on the highway, driving, in between here and Spokane. Seems like I'm always driving back and forth. Most friends of mine are in town, or they live far way. Everywhere from here, no matter where your going is far. If you want to live somewhere where there is more than one store, or private bar, then this isn't the spot. At least on my way into Spokane, I get to choose between 3 post offices. Wow!

I live in the heart of Elk, Wa. With a population of around 4000, Elk is one of the least populated towns in the U.S. with roughly 50 people per square mile. We have many more than 5 stores. Within the center of town we have Boondocks General store Reedy's Custom Meats, The Elk Sentinel our local newspaper, a Volunteer Fire Dept, A VFW, a Post office in operation since the 1890s currently sitting on the old site of the Elk Hotel (burned down in the 70s) a Century Link building(though few get service) a local food bank and 2 Karate schools. On the outskirts of the main strip we have Miller's One stop, an Equipment rental and sales, JD's auto mechanic and sales, a sand and gravel company, a small feed store next to an Art studio/consignment store(only in the country lol) and several places to eat along Highway 2. It is a wonderful peaceful place to live with a strong community. We have a community park open to all with several festivities most of the year including a local parade! Very inexpensive to live with almost no homes on fewer than 10 acre lots and most on a lot more. Stop by but don't feel weird when strangers wave to you. It's how we are in the county. Everyone is welcome.
