The crime stats for North Chicago show that crime reporting is a total sham. Surrounding areas like Waukegan are actually wonderful and safe compared to North Chicago. The only single redeeming place is the navy base, and even that looks like a concentration camp from the distance. Not nearly as nice as it is in pictures. Speaking of concentration camp vibes, I even saw some old abandoned thing that looked like a watchtower. The roads are all looping and confusing and the atmosphere is depressing. Everyone I've spoken to about the area has said the same. I went looking for property here and figured it would be good at first due to liking Lake County in general and figuring it can't be too bad if it's up north and near Gurnee, but nope. This area looks like you went back to the 90s and entered Cabrini Green or Englewood. The property is dirt cheap for a reason. Perhaps I didn't give it a proper chance when I first went through, but what I saw made me only want to get out as fast as possible and not want to come back.
