Review of Columbia, Maryland

Columbia, Maryland
Star Rating - 1/13/2008
Columbia is a great place to live. It offers as many opportunities to be involved in the community as you can wish for, with particular emphasis on volunteerism. It has a superb library system and one of the highest user rates of that system of any city in the US. Over 20 outdoor pools available in this community of about 100,000 plus superb athletic facilties and an extensive pathway system available to walkers and cyclists. Its major shortcoming is the cost of living, which recently increased due to state budget shortfalls. The State and County income tax burden is over 8% and the sales tax just increased to 6%. So it could be a problem for people looking to retire in this area on a fixed income.
