Review of Naugatuck borough, Connecticut

Great Potential in this small town
Star Rating - 5/1/2007
We moved here a little over a year ago from an expensive town in Fairfield County. Not only are we happier financially but emotionally as well. I love the small-town feel but still having everything we could want close by. We were concerned that we would leave behind what we had in Fairfield County but that is NOT the case. We live in a large house that would have cost us over double in our old town; we live in a safe, attractive family neighborhood. This town has soooo many programs and functions geared around families (most free or for a nominal charge). There are parks, playgrounds, sports galore, a YMCA, fast food restaurants as well as sit down fine dining. There are 3 big name grocery stores, a Wal-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid, Blockbuster, multiple Dunkin Donuts, a large pet store and a charming downtown area with lots of boutiques and antique shops. There are a variety of housing choices from condos to new custom home constructions in communities. There is even a multi-million dollar project in the works to bring in a cinema, the theater, more dining, shopping and housing options, and more tax revenue. They will improve the appearance of the area, add to the civil services and bring in many more jobs. You can definitely make your money go farther here and not lose out on anything. Commuting is easy since Naugatuck is located on the Route 8 corridor, is very close to I-84 and offers limited rail & busing service. Bridgeport (35 min), Waterbury (5 min), Hartford (25 min), and New Haven (30 min) make business and entertainment limitless. I have four children, two of which are in public schools (there are also multiple Catholic schools). I have been very impressed with the educational system here considering the budget constraints they are under (as is every town). I am also very impressed with the involvement of the parents of the pupils. People are friendly and the atmosphere in this community is pride. We are very happy that we ended up making the right choice. Naugatuck is a great place to live with great potential to grow!
