A Great Place to Live, Except . . .

We have lived in and near Bothell for 20 years. The schools here are great, and if you’re college educated, the job market is great, too. We moved to the Pacific Northwest from Aridzona 30+ years ago, and though it can be gloomy here, the summers and falls, clean air, abundance of things to do, scenary, arts, restaurants, flowers!, great water, the ocean, and fresh fruits and vegetables more than make up for it.
So why only 2 stars? This is a VERY liberal town and area. There simply is no diversity of thought. It’s oppressive. Everyone here thinks that you think exactly like they do, and there is open disdain for Christians, conservatives, and the Midwest. My wife takes our dog to the park every day, and usually gets hit with a barb like "those stupid conservatives". Even people in church will roll their eyes when speaking about people in the Midwest. We have learned to hold our tongues because we would have few friends if we didn’t.
Taxes here are also high, and traffic is some of the worst in the US. Seattle is a beautiful town, right on Puget Sound. But these days it’s dirty and filled with homeless encampments and lots of drug use. We never go there anymore.
I retire in a few years, and when we leave, we’re shaking the dust (or mud) from our feet.
