Review of Harlem, Georgia

So much potential but...
Star Rating - 1/17/2012
If I knew back in 2001 what I was getting into when I moved here, I would have kept far, far away.

At one time Harlem was a busy little town with several grocery stores, factories and a train depot. Today it is baby steps away from becoming a run down, lower class town. That is a crying shame because Harlem has a LOT of historic houses, it could be a very beautiful area.

The mayor and coucil and administration people are some of the most corrupt people I have ever come in contact with. And I have met a lot of people and been to a lot of places since I was in the Navy. We have a Mayor who is personally benefiting from the new public safety building that is being built. Our previous Mayor just got convicted of molesting his adopted daughters. Before that, the head guy at the water department dumped sewage in our drinking water supply. He just got out of jail.

The only part of the city that looks halfway decent is about 3 blocks on the main street. If you want a job here, you have your career choices include working at the IGA, one of the gas stations, or at the Huddle House. Schools here are pretty bad. Pretty depressing here.
