Review of Cottonwood, Arizona

Cost of living catch-22
Star Rating - 8/29/2007
Cottonwood economics does not seem to be possible. The smallest house is over $250,000 here, yet there are no jobs paying much above minimum wage. The only way to survive here is to own your own business or tele-commute. Arizona's taxation is structured as a tourism state, meaning sales tax is high, while property tax and income tax is low, so visitors pay the lion's share of the state's income. Great place to live right between Sedona and Jerome, but bring your own job or business.

Not sure where numbers are coming from but I do know the sales tax, property tax, and income taxes in Arizona & Cottonwood are lower than Colorado or Iowa or Oregon. Obviously not much for jobs due to only about 10-15k population town and remote location not ideal for industry.

Charles is right. Expensive houses and rents, no jobs over $8 hr, lots of drug addicts and low life people here, rude small town atmosphere. Police constantly hassle people over stupid little problems, worst place I have ever lived, looking forward to leaving soon!
