Corvallis, OR

re: Corvallis is a college town - 6/8/2005
- 10/18/2010
I'm from Boise and am interested in Corvallis. Though I was really hoping to get away from the 'college town' that is Boise. While Boise is large, the BSU fans drive me insane, especially when it is football season as I am pretty anti sports. Is Corvallis that bad?

Cottonwood, AZ

Has its ups and downs - 10/18/2010
Cottonwood is a nice place to live, however there is a pretty bad meth problem, which I suppose is common in smaller towns nowadays. Though in my day to day life, I never experienced it, mostly just noticed it when I worked in the ER and from other people. Supposedly more than half of the people who applied at the Home Depot in town when it first opened failed their drug test so there ya go. However, generally speaking I enjoyed living there. Most people are very friendly and it is perfectly situated in Arizona. The weather is great, not as hot as Phoenix but still pretty hot in the summer, though not much snow in the winter. But extreme hot and extreme cold are both within a day drive away. There are many attractions and neat cities nearby to visit.

Maricopa, AZ

re: Maricopa AZ - 4/12/2007

Except for the fact that between 5a-10a it will prob take close to two hours to get into Phoenix, maybe an hour to an hour and a half to Tempe/Mesa. I lived in Maricopa and worked in south Scottsdale. I volunteered for overtime so that I could come in early, to get to work by 6am I had to leave 4:30a. At 4:30a there was traffic building up on the 347. It is INSANE!!!!!!!

Boise City, ID

A wonderful place to live! - 10/18/2010
I have been in Boise for about 3 years and I love it here. I have not witnessed any racist or sexist people in Boise, so I think Mary (who previously posted) must have had bad experiences with certain people or is severely exaggerating. I have lived in over 5 different metro areas (prob close to 10 cities) and have to say Boise has the nicest group of people I have met so far. As far as the night life goes, there is always something going on downtown. I can understand that if you are an older person who likes culture then it may not be as fun for you here as the active night life is full of local college students as this is a college town. My only complaint is the fact that is a college town actually. While I support the idea of people supporting local schools and groups, the local BSU football support drives me completely insane. I think the idea of following sports that closely and acting as if one may drop dread if their favorite team doesn't win is utterly ridiculous, so the whole sports scene drives me a little bonkers. I may move out of state at some point to go to school because I'd rather not go to BSU, but if not for that and the fact that most of my family isn't here, I would stay here forever. The weather is great (though I wish we had real thunderstorms every now and then), the people are nice, the cost of living is low, people here are very active and promote a healthy lifestyle, the town is well taken care of with many parks, trails, and inner city walking/biking paths, and the crime rate is below the national average, which is very rare for cities of Boise's size. And to all the previous posters complaining about traffic, you have never lived in a place bigger than Boise, obviously, or you would know that the traffic here is not bad at all. It doesn't take more than 20 minutes to get anywhere IN town and no more than 45 to the surrounding cities/counties. Morning/afternoon traffic may add a bit to that, but it is nothing compared to other cities.

Beaver, UT

Not recommended for anyone under 50 years old - 10/18/2010
I lived in Beaver for about 3 years several years ago. First and foremost, it is over 50 miles to the nearest Walmart or shopping center of any kind other than the local grocery store and very few downtown stores (ie: local variety store and pawn shop). If this doesn't bother you, the quality of the people might. If you are an adult, with no children, who works in one of the FEW respectable companies in town, such as the local hospital, then you might like it here. But for the younger crowd, or those in the lower end careers, I wouldn't suggest it. There is a huge drug problem in Beaver, though it is unknown to many people, depending on where you live and work. The quality of the people who live there is very low imo, so be prepared to be lied to and stabbed in the back. If you do not associate with people who work in the local restaurants, truck stops, etc then you might be okay. The nearby towns are equally bad, with the exception of the small farming communities nearby that are unincorporated, this seems to be where the nice people live. There is a large number of Mormons in Beaver, so you either befriend the very nice Mormon who may attempt to convert you or the druggie who will steal your things and lie to you. The only exceptions are older people who have lived there for decades and have no idea what really goes on in town. It COULD be a nice place for a much older person who keeps to themselves, like I said before, but other than that, stay far away!!!
