Review of Elkton, Kentucky

Great place to live and raise a family
Star Rating - 5/28/2006
Elkton is a small town twenty minutes east of Hopkinsville, KY, twenty minutes northeast of Clarksville, TN, 45 minutes west of Bowling Green, KY, and one hour northwest of Nashville, TN. It is an easy 25 minute drive from Fort Campbell, KY. It is a small town of 2000 people, the county seat of Todd County, a small rural agricultural county in southwestern Kentucky. It has a Menonite community of several hundred families, which makes the area unique.

Housing is very affordable and the cost of living is lower than Nashville and surrounding cities. Right in the middle of town is the Elk Fork Country Club, where you can have a family membership for $500 per year, with unlimited golf and swimming.

The schools are good and safe. Soldiers from Fort Campbell are moving to Elkton to get out of the Montgomery and Christian County school systems. There is also a nice park in town that offers Spring and Fall Soccer programs, as well as baseball and softball. There are festivals where they block off the town square and the community joins together in celebrations.

The churches are strong in the county and most people have strong family values. While the local economy has struggled with the loss of several plants over the past few years, Elkton is transforming itself into a popular bedroom community. Most people are very happy and content in this small, practically crime-free community.
