High cost of living, bad weather

We have lived in Guilderland for the last 4 yrs, our rent has increased 8% and even with a promotion for both of us my husbands and my wages have only gone up 11%. Basically the weather is terrible for about 6-7 months a year, and the cost of living is very high.
We have previously lived in Woodbury, PA and Las Cruces, NM. Both those places are great, stay out of upstate New York if you want to keep your sanity and your money.
