Review of Tucson, Arizona

Don't bother with Tucson, many better places
Star Rating - 8/10/2019
I have resided in the Tucson area for about fourteen years watching Tucson basically deteriorate into a congested dirty and dangerous city. Tucson last year was ranked as being 5th poorest major city and ranked as having the 4th lowest employment pay scale of all major cities. Add to this a violent crime rate that is twice the national average. Tucson is becoming very congested with vicious traffic and some of the worst drivers you'll find anywhere. No city planning is in the pipeline to address this problem either. Tucson has very few good jobs as well, most pay about 30-32K on average and Tucson's largest employer the University of Arizona has much lower salaries than neighbor universities like New Mexico State University even. Tucson is growing rapidly with all the California transplants so housing and rent prices are rising quickly as well, in five years Tucson will probably be mostly unaffordable just like Denver and Portland have now become. To add insult Tucson roads are abysmal and the monsoon is basically nonexistent so summers are very hot and humid in July and August. If you're thinking about moving to Tucson, reconsider your decision, there are so many more equatable choices in Tucson. This place with the low wages and escalating prices can drag you down, there are small cities in the western US that have a much quality of life

Great review, but I wish the reviewer had mentioned where those more equitable cities were. Unchecked development made me move from St Pete, Fl. It became very transient, and housing prices were going through the roof. I moved from there to Albuquerque. Bad idea......the housing was fine, but the non stop crime was too much to deal with. That is a seriously dangerous city. So I then fled to Las Cruces, which USED to be a quiet, small city. No more. Again, unchecked development has seen the 60,000 population quickly swell to over 100,000. The way they are building houses is just crazy. Tightest housing market I have ever seen. So now I am probably headed back to Tucson. I haven't moved yet, but somehow doubt the city will get taken over by the hordes of Californians and assorted retirees like Denver or St Pete, largely due to the nature of living in very hot summers. We'll see. I've been wrong before. I used to go through Denver and see the whole city covered in snow, with high winds and freezing temperatures, and wonder, who on earth would want to live here? A lot of people, apparently.

I live in a suburb of Tucson. While my mailing address is Tucson I have an entirely different local government entity. Tucson needs a complete change in city government. From mayor on down. Anti business, moronic officials, and improper fiscal management are hallmarks of Tucson's city officials. I wouldn't live inside city of Tucson boundaries if they paid me. Crime is rampant, roads are not maintained, mass transit choices are poor, budgets are a disaster, and the city appears determined to be as anti-business as possible. When they installed red light running cameras I quit driving into Tucson to shop, I changed gyms and doctors. I basically quit visiting and spending money in Tucson. While the city can't maintain their roads my small local government sends street sweepers out monthly to sweep and wash the road in front of my home. That's the difference between living inside city of Tucson and one of the suburbs. The heat and outrageous utility bills have finally convinced us it's time to move to a more moderate climate.

All wonderful ramifications of having liberal leadership from Cali come in and take over the city government and turn the area into San Fran or Sacramento. north AZ and central AZ is way better QofL in my opinion.
