The northeastern corner of Nevada is very fortunate in their economy, particularly during the most recent downturn. While much of the state and a good portion of the country are experiencing some serious economic woes, this area has been spared due to the robustness of its main industry, gold mining. Most of the residents remain employed and while some areas most certainly have slowed, in the main the area has maintained a reasonable rate of unemployment in an otherwise gloomy picture statewide.
