The Employment opportunities in Mecklenburg county Virginia are not very good. You may be able to obtain a job here but do not count on the ability to pay a mortgage if you buy a house and need to finance part of the cost.
The pay scale is not high enough to support a family with a mortgage and a car payment and the rest of normal living expenses because their are not enough quality jobs in the county.
For example the county is obviously in bad shape because my neighbors a family with a mortgage and car payment plus children, had been effected by the rough times recently like everyone else, both parents had been laid off due to plant closings or cutbacks, but the bills stayed so after many months of tring to find new jobs to suport their family with just the basics had to take the only jobs that are available which are only at the most a dollar over country minimum wage one with no benifits, and even a county job with benifits by the time you pay for the family benifits and gas to get to work you cant eat,
What makes things worse is the county charges personal property taxes.
So with these tough times this family did not have the money to pay them before the due date because they had wantedd to feed their kids, and had planned on paying the county taxes with their income tax return, But the county with out permission just took their state return, which was only nine dollars and then charged them a 25.00 processing fee, for taking it from them when they had planned to give it to the county anyway with the difference paid with fed return,
So now things arent bad enough but the county cost this struggling family more money.
You can read supposes statstcs about an area but if you do not have plenty of money in the bank I would stongly reconsider moving to this area,
Do not get me wrong the climate is beautiful, and a few other things,
But the real estate seems not to disclose all imformation about the area either, they say Clarksville VA. only town on the lake (Kerr Lake)
and lidt lake front property for outrageous prices and neglect to tell people it is a flood control lake and they realy do not onwn lake front the Army Corps Of Engineers owns it, so again do plenty of reaserch before locating here.
