Review of Brunswick, Maryland

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Star Rating - 6/19/2011
Brunswick, Maryland is absolutely one of the worst possible places to live. The local government is very much a "good old boys" network, and who you know very much depends on what you can do. The city council is, by and large, a group of people very much impressed with their own self-importance. Drugs are a very big issue - the C & O Canal towpath (which is federal property) runs down by the river. Every kid in town knows that if you are on the towpath, the local constabulary cannot touch you because it is not in their jurisdiction. By the time the Park Rangers get there, the kids have dumped the drugs and/or split because they can hear them coming. Everybody talks about revitalizing downtown. Here again, the "good old boy" network comes into play. If the person wishing to place a business downtown has crossed paths with any of these pompous A$$e$, they are denied permits and cannot establish their business downtown. To add to the ludicrousness of this "Alic in Wonderland" world, they have now built five (5) traffic circles within a 2 mile radius! You have to wonder if the city council meetings haven't been held down on the towpath, with a "peace pipe". On top of that, the way they handle code violations is "complaint based". The code enforcement officer, whom they pay fairly well, sits in his office and waits for neighbors with a vendetta to dime out other neighbors. You have entire neighborhoods with a forest jungle, and one person will get cited. I don't think the guy even checks this stuff out himself - just answers the phone and sends out the violations. My advice to ANYONE wanting to move into Brunswick Maryland is - RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
