Review of Madras, Oregon

Where I would preferr to live
Star Rating - 12/29/2006
While I do not live in Madras, Oregon it would be the one place that I would preferr to live. I visited my brother, who lives there, about two years ago. I expected to see nothing but sand and cactus but found the local scenery quite beautiful. The landscape near town is covered with bushes and smaller trees and appears to stay fairly green most of the year. I find it quite beautiful with the Cascade mountain range in the background. It seems like you can almost reach out and touch them. The people that I met there were friendly and there seemed to be a plentiful job market and it appeared to be a thriving farming community.I live in Tennessee where my wife was born and raised, therefore we live in Tennessee but, if I could get her to move, I would not hesitate to pull up stakes and move to Madras. As stated I live in Tennessee and have lived here most of my adult life. At present I live in Woodbury Tennessee, a small town of about 5000 population. It has some of the most beautiful scenery in Tennessee, it is hill country with a lot of Cedar and pine forrests along with hardwoods like Oak. Because of the Cedar and Pine there is always some green year around. The weather is mostly mild in the winter but does get down below freezing once in awhile. We get some snow occasionally but rarely stays on the ground more than a day or two. The job market in this area is quite good as we live within a few miles of one of the fastest growing communities in Tennessee (Murfreesboro). Medical care is plentiful with a very good local hospital and numerous physicians and with Vanderbilt Medical Center and several other major hospitals only fifty miles from here in Nashville.I can not intelligently comment on the schools as I have been retired for several years but we have a brand new grade school and the high School looks to be quite good.
