I have lived in FL pretty much my entire life. I moved to CA in 96' and came back to FL in 04' to go to school. Sadly, it has been getting steadily worse here by the year. Don't get me wrong, I love FL but I want to give people a realistic idea of what its like to live here. The Republican Governor & legislature are destroying this state. They only care about and take care of the wealthy. FL is a right-to-work state which means they can pay you whatever they want and get rid of you for no reason. & believe me FL DOES NOT pay, a person makes peanuts here. If FL could get away with paying everyone in the state minimum wage they would. I have a masters degree and they wanna pay me $30,000 a year. Its pathetic! FL is tourism state and they want to pay everyone those type of salaries. I have been doing research and I would make more money living anywhere else. The only state that is worse than FL is Mississippi. & there is virtually no industry here in FL. In regards to housing out here, it is impossible to afford a house here and this is not because of the price of housing. It is because homeowners insurance is astronomical because of the hurricanes. Insurance companies are constantly raising rates and dropping policies. I know people who pay more for insurance than they do for their mortgage. & the FL gov. allows the insurance comp. to do whatever they want. Also, car insurance is high ( I pay over $3,000 a year with a good driving record) because FL is a "no fault state", I paid far less in CA. Rent isn't too bad, I pay $1235 for a 3/3 townhouse. But, my electric bill is ridiculous, my townhouse isn't that big and I pay over $300 a month. I can only imagine what people in these huge houses pay, probably $600 or $700. When it comes to crime, it is getting worse & worse here. I do live in a safe neighborhood but every time I turn on the TV there is a shooting, robbery, murder, etc. I really big issue for me here is services, FL provides virtually no services to its people and the few services they do have, the wait-list is years long. FL has no homeless services, this state wants to pretend like it doesn't have homeless people. I work in a mental health facility and this is the biggest issue we face. FL also has virtually no services for people with disabilities. My son is autistic and I applied for services thru an agency and was put on a wait-list. The wait-list is 5 years long and I was told that there was no guarantee of funding when my son becomes eligible. So even after waiting 5 years, my son may still end up with nothing. This is so far beyond unacceptable, I can't even put it into words. Now, when it comes to the weather. I read the review where the person said it was 85 degrees... HAHA... Yeah, its 85 degrees... in the so-called winter. It was 85 degrees during Christmas! The rest of the year it is anywhere from 95 to 98 degrees & that's along with 100% humidity. Honestly, it is HOT at least 10 months out of the year. There are no seasons in FL. It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy outdoor activities in FL because of the relentless heat & humidity. Living in FL is like living in the 5th realm of Hades, I'm not kidding. Also, North FL & South FL are are pretty much two different states, you can't compare them. The only positive thing about FL is the cost of education, it is a lot less expensive than other states, but who knows how long that will last with Gov. Grimm Reaper. He's going to allow the universities decide how much to raise tuition each year. So affordable higher education may be a thing of the past. Due to all of these factors my family and I have decided to move out of FL next summer when I'm done with school. We will be moving to Washington state. It really sucks because I grew up here and I don't want to leave, I have friends & family here. But at this point I don't have a choice. Sadly, I cannot in good conscience recommend anyone moving to FL. Well, unless you wealthy. But if you are the average American family or you have a loved one with disabilities, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO FL.
