Review of Prestonsburg, Kentucky

Prestonsburg! A great little place.
Star Rating - 7/6/2022
Living the past 30 years in the dry desert of the southwest, my family and I spent the past 3-years looking at potential states to move too. Some place green! We finally settled on Kentucky for a number of reasons. The breathtaking beauty of this state is second to none, a very reasonable cost of living, relatively mild weather, and genuinely good people.
My family and I took a 10-day trip to an amazing 5-bedroom, 4-bath B&B on a private lake just outside Prestonsburg in late April. This area is in the southeastern portion of the state, nestled among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The area has an average elevation of less than 700 feet, and is much less than the 4,500-foot elevation we are used to. Where we currently live, we average less than 10 inches of precipitation, whereas Kentucky average more than 48 inches!
We were both looking for a home to purchase, and made it a family reunion at the same time. I had family from NY, PA, CA, and VT all invited to come spend as much time as they could afford. We had a great time!
We found all the people we personally met, and spoke with showing that ‘southern hospitality’ was alive and well in Kentucky! We found the best Mexican restaurant any of us had ever eaten at right at the outskirts of Prestonsburg! My sister in law is half Apache/half Mexican and she is a Mexican food snob, but she was totally in love with the food, atmosphere, and cuisine! She still cannot get over the fact that the best Mexican restaurant she has ever eaten at (several times) was in Kentucky!
My brother is also looking to move to Kentucky, and although we had a wonderful time in the Prestonsburg area, we both decided to purchase our homesteads a bit further west, around the Daniel Boone Forrest area, but the people of Prestonsburg were nothing, if not friendly, humble, and very friendly to us all.
We are currently in the final portion of selling our home, and moving. I will have more great opinions of our adopted state to share over the coming years.
