Review of Simsbury, Connecticut

nice, but expensive...
Star Rating - 6/22/2009
I lived in Simsbury for 1 1/2 yrs. The cost of housing as a whole is expensive. Homes are a bit more than surrounding areas, but the property tax is what drives up the cost. Last time I looked, the mill rate was around 35.0. Neighboring Suffield is about 24, with Windsor Locks even lower. It can really drive up a house payment. But there are a lot of amenities for the cost.
It's a beautiful little town, busy to drive through because it's on a main thoroughfare to points south. Lots of eateries, great place to walk, new kids park, summer concerts, ice cream, boutiques, good schools, wonderful library. But it is also Yuppieville. So if this appeals to you, great. But if you are looking for down home friendliness, this is not the place for you. (or most of CT, for that matter)
