Review of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania

I moved here a few months ago for a job. I'd much prefer a more walkable location, Conshy was the best I could do based on where the job is. I think it has a lot of potential but is ruined by poor urban planning.

The area near the bend is pretty nice. It has a few nice restaurants and is a decent neighborhood. Unfortunately, the city is mostly ruled by the tyranny of vehicular traffic, especially as you get to the outskirts. It has two train stations (Conshohocken and Spring Mill) but due to the lack of walkability it's often necessary to drive to them. In fact I have no route to Spring Mill that doesn't require walking in a high-traffic street, and many places with sidewalks are uncomfortably thin and close to high-speed traffic. Even worse is the western part of the city - if you go far enough down the SRT in that direction you get to a point where there's basically no place you can walk off the trail, so trying to run in a loop in that direction is a non-option. Coming here from Ardmore, a much more walkable area, it's easy to see why the retail shops are doing so much better there. It's a shame because with the river, SRT, and great train access Conshy should be kicking Ardmore and Manayunk's butt as a hip suburban area, but lack of walkability is killing it.

That being said, if you want a place that does an OK job at having a neighborhood, Conshy is passable.

The notion that this place has a lot of violent crime seems a bit silly. It's a pretty well-off suburb. I can't speak to the statistics but I feel safe walking anywhere, aside from the vehicles.
