Review of Danville, Kentucky

Crime is Danville, in Kentucky really is driven, in my opinion, by the economy and lack of higher education. There is great opportunity for the area to grow in the next 5 - 10 years; Lexington is growing quickly and the horse industry is a driving part of that growth.
Crime is predominately non-violent, though in the last two years I have been here, murder may be on the rise. The state is still...innocent enough that a murder anywhere in the state is headline news, so my perception of the prevelence my be due to the news coverage. Low income and poverty play a large part in the rise of crime, and central Kentucky has been home to many light industry businesses that are relocating out of country, only adding to the problem of employement.
Danville is a pleasant commuhity - the downtown is charming, and though it lacks many amenities today, like Lexington, there is growth taking place.
I live in southern Danville and commute to Lexington for work. The major highway north/south is 27 and construction is set to begin this summer/fall to change it from 2-lane (truely a little country road today) to a four lane commuter corridor.
Danville is an ideal family community, Centre college provides cultural opportunities locally and Lexington is just an hour north, providing further opportunities.

Good Luck in your future endeavors!!
