I have no idea about "hiding" criminal activities, but as someone that grew up in Okoboji, I do know that it does tend to get a little bit busier in the Summer-as ANY small town would if it were penetrated by tons of visiters. We enjoy this. This is how many of our families made thier livings-off of tourism in the Summer. When a small town goes from a population of under a thousand to around ten thousand on holiday weekends it can get crazy. Anywhere would. Ask other small towns that have found themselves in the same predicament. We do the best we can. I don't live there any longer, but I am darn proud of my hometown, and always will be. It's my favorite place in the world, and there is no better place, in my opinion, to raise children. Boji is a wonderful place filled with great people. If we've hidden anything, it's to protect the way of life we have at the lake we all love. If you've never been, I personally invite you to come and visit. I promise you'll fall in love with a true gem of natural beauty in the middle of corn country.
