Review of Gold Hill, Oregon

Gold Hill--best climate for year-round boating
Star Rating - 2/21/2020
I first kayaked through Gold Hill 30 years ago and fell in love with the river there. I grew up in Bend, Oregon and the Deschutes river and loved the Deschutes but when I discovered the Rogue River with its beautiful water quality, incredible fishing, and mossy covered rocks, I was speechless. The Deschutes river has volcanic rock which can peel the skin off your knuckles while kayaking and damage your boats. The Rogue River is incredibly gentle for swimmers, kayakers, rafters, and fishermen while having the same difficulty challenge as Deschutes river excitement. I found the three-seasons of the Rogue Valley communities to be preferable to the Central Oregon climate. I spent so many days shoveling snow in Bend while a typical winter day in Gold Hill involves warming your beverage while watching the snow melt into the river. I boat year-round now in Gold Hill and love the mix of seasons. I lived in Portland, Eugene, Salem, Corvallis, and Bend and my favorite place is being on the Rogue River in Gold Hill. Come play!!!!
