Review of Edison, New Jersey

I lived in North Edison from 1994 to 2008. A developer by the name of Foxx & Foxx bought up all the small houses when one spouse died. He bullied the surviving spouse until they sold to Foxx even when the deceased spouse said they'd never sell to Foxx but the survivor sold to Foxx and he built huge McMansions(replacing two or three existing homes with one McMansion) . I do not dislike any ethnic group but only Asians with
multi-generational families could afford these McMansions. Just before I left the last "American" store vanished and became an "Asian" store. The shopping centers and commercial streets became "Little Asia"and on weekends many streets became "Street fairs" with only Asian food, clothing and video/DVD items for sale. Anglo-Americans were looked on with disdain. If you enjoy Asian culture, Edison is for you. If you enjoy traditional American culture stay away.

I too left North Edison but not because I did not like the change but because of my job commute. On the contrary, Iselin is the town that was run down, with broken glass all over Green Street (Wood Avenue South separates Edison and Iselin (Woodbridge Township)). If you chose to go to Route 1 via Green Street, you locked your car doors to whiz by. Some eateries like Hanks Tavern and some pizzerias were great to eat at but overall the area was unsafe to walk in. The Asians came to rent stores as it was cheap and no business wanted to move into the run down town of Iselin. Business then boomed with more and more ethnic stores moving in as again, it was cheap to rent and then purchase the building or shop. Edison on the other hand opened up ethnic stores when Iselin's Green Street became concentrated. Nothing bad about this just like little Italy, Chinatown and Ironbound sections in Newark and so on. Immigrants is what the nation is made of and attributes its success to. The Chamber of Commerce in Woodbridge is very happy with the booming businesses in Iselin. In fact, it is only now that folks have realized how easy a commute it is from Edison into NYC and more and more people want to live in Edison with its great schools. North Edison boasts of hea prestigious JP Stevens and kids have graduated and become successes. South Edison High has evolved into a better school system due to the ethnic population. If anyone feels slighted that immigrants do well, it should be a challenge for natives to do better than them! Why not take on that attitude? My children have made life long friends and been helped by the Asian kids with their study groups and projects and been motivated to go to college because of such friends as the population in Edison. Kudos to them!

What you say is exactly what the WASP From Germany said of Italians moving to New York City, till Italians had to carve a niche within the city to stay safe. Then you had the Irish hating the Italians and vice versa. Soon sub-sections came up in NYC, like Little Italy and China Town and so on, so that ethnic groups could feel at home. What you say about Asian Americans may be true. (you fail to mention they ARE Americans). They come here with a minimum undergrad degree, work hard and go to school to specialize in yet another degree to assure themselves of jobs and then save, work hard, save and buy the best home that their money can buy. What Fox and Foxx may have done has nothing to do with Asian Americans. Why is it that Caucasians can buy but no one says a word but the moment it is any ethnic group, one wonders where they go their money from.?? IF one does not care to go to school, work hard and save, then they cannot complain. As for Edison, NJ, it is a great melting pot off of NYC and everyone seems to co-exist well. Hats off to such a well-balanced town!!
