Long Island way overrated
Star Rating - 2/1/2011
I have spent my entire 43 years living on Long Island. In a nutshell, Long Island is overpriced, overcrowded, and just plain overrated. One must sit in traffic to go anywhere. And its getting worse. To venture off the island, it is an easy extra 2 hrs of sitting bumper to bumper going through the NYC burroughs, on any day. If ou are an outdoor enthusiast, forget it. The beaches are nice, yes, but again you will have people on top of your blanket in the summer. It is 1 and 1/2 hours to the nearest area that resembles wilderness, WITHOUT traffic. Double your time coming home in the evening. Sundays can be 3 hrs to go home 70 miles from upstate NY.
Financially, there are really only 2 classes. Rich, or struggling. $100,000 a year salary does not make you comfortable here, trust me. I sold my house 3 yrs ago after refinancing twice just to try to get under control. Everyone I know around my age lives paycheck to paycheck. I will rent until I bolt this area for good in 2013 after my younger one graduates high school.
Manhattan is awesome if you love art, theatre, any spectacles. It is a great place to hang out and walk around. That's about all the good I could say for Long Island, especially Nassau. Seriously.
If you are looking for quality of life, this area is for the rich only. Then, you can't mind sitting in traffic everyday to go anywhere. And, you cannot be one looking for wilderness serenity.
Bottom line, I can't wait to get the heck outta here and head west.

This person is talking about Long Island in general and not Massapequa. If they really lived in Massapequa, they would know about the beautiful Massapequa Preserve and the private/exclusive beaches like TOBAY Beach available to Massapequa which are never crowded.
