You know, I'm really surprised by the negative post written by Brianna. Wheaton has been my home for 13 years now and I find that the people here are welcoming, friendly and overall good people. There will always be a critic no matter where you go, and truthfully every town will have it's folks that are good, bad and even the ugly. Wheaton is no exception to that rule, I don't care how many churches you have here. It's not like there is a bubble around this town. People come and go from all over, and that means they bring their own views with them. From my experience, Wheaton is a beautiful historil town peppered with charming homes and neighborhoods. My husband and I moved here when we just got married, and now have a family with three children. The schools are outstanding and the district 200 is a fair and inventive school district. I have children with special needs, and I find that their needs are being met well within the Wheaton school district. I enjoy this area so much. With Cosley Zoo near-by you have an awesome place to take little ones for a few hours without getting exhausted at a large zoo. Also, the prairie path invites you to be active, and Lincoln marsh hosts some great park district programs where kids can learn nature by literally dabbling in it. The downtown area is quaint and offers some great places to eat, drink and get treats. The little popcorn store is a town favorite and there are so many ways to become active within the community. My kids love this area, and every summer we take advantage of the many beautiful parks available all over Wheaton. We also get to take advanatage of two great park district water parks/pools, Northside pool and Rice Pool and Water park. This area has a lot to offer families old and young. If you find that people are generally unhappy, then you aren't truly involving your spirit in the community. It also is not true that people compete with their neighbors . . . never ever felt like this in 13 years. Also the idea that you can generalize the community by sitting in a library, shopping center, restaurant and YMCA and eves drop on peoples conversations actually concerns me that maybe Brianna is a little peculiar. Who does that? In the neighborhood I live in, we have people who have lived in Wheaton since the construction of the homes here, as well as people who have relocated, grew up in Wheaton, moved outside of a nearby city (that was us), and empty nesters. There are families with little children and grown up children a like. Our neighborhood has a directory as well as we all make sure that we look out for each other and help each other when there is need. Anyway, I just wanted to write this because I felt like our community what misrepresented in the most recent entrance, and I really disagree with Brianna's entry of Wheaton having an odd culture.
