Review of Tyler, Texas

Great town!
Star Rating - 5/13/2015
"An Acquired Taste" - Drivel. Tyler is a wonderful town with some really great people, from all walks of life. Every barrel has some bad apples; I for one have never heard a racial slur used in public. I've lived here since '01 and it's the best town I have ever resided in (including Houston and Los Angeles). Great town!

The 'barrel' of Tyler, in this case, has many, many more than a few bad apples. Perhaps, if you are looking for a respite from the reason and conveniences of the 21st century and you yearn for the 1960s you'll find it delightfully charming. Otherwise beware, and do your homework before making any commitment. I wish I had, and that is on me for such a glaring oversight. I bought the dog and pony show of southern hospitality and all the rest not realizing that once an outsider in east Texas, always an outsider in Texas. As for all the great hospitality, it is only just barely skin deep. Don't be tempted.

Obviously you did not see the Rose Festival last fall. All white girls. They shoujld have had at least a token Asian or Black or brown. I was embarrassed, as I am southern all my life. There is definitely racial tension here, on both black and white sides.

I was so happy to find your post as I have placed an offer to buy a home in East Tyler just outside the loop. I live in Los Angeles now and, unlike those who posted anti tea party and religion sentiments, I have been on an island here in the land of uber liberal insanity. SoCal has become a dump. If some of you think traffic is bad in Tyler, you should head over here to see what bad traffic really is. The 405 and 110 have become parking lots from 7a to 7p EVERY day. Can't wait to move. The only thing I'll miss is the ocean, which can be quelled by heading down to Corpus Christie. Heh, living it Tyler with a few boards in the garage will be great conversation starters.
