Hammond used to be a small, quiet town but with the growth of the local college it is increasing in size and everything that goes with growth.

Hammond is a diverse, centrally located city nestled between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Its downtown area is a vibrant hub of culture, with a bustling bar and art scene. The downtown district is home to around 14 restaurants within just a few blocks, and it even hosts an active Amtrak depot. What makes Hammond unique is its ability to offer the charm of a small town alongside the liveliness of a city. The city has consistently earned the title of the cleanest city in Louisiana for several years, a testament to the local community's pride and effort in maintaining their environment. While the police presence can be heavy-handed at times, they generally uphold justice without unfair treatment of the citizens. However, it's worth noting that crime tends to be more prevalent in the city's outskirts, which is a downside to consider. Within the city limits, you'll find a warm and welcoming community of diverse individuals with a wide range of ideas and backgrounds. The emphasis on drinking is notable due to the presence of a nearby college, but on the college campus itself, you'll discover picturesque lawns adorned with beautiful oak trees, creating a suburban Northshore of New Orleans ambiance. Thanks to the college's influence, young people flock to the area, earning Hammond the nickname, "the town that never ages." It's reminiscent of Riverdale without the overt darkness, offering a unique blend of youthfulness and culture that sets it apart from other cities in the region.
