Review of Crumpler, West Virginia

Elevation of town incorrect
Star Rating - 10/5/2012
I just wanted to let you know the information posted on the site about the elevation being 1,877 feet is not correct. Crumpler, WV is situated in a high mountain valley. The entire community is situated on a slope. The lowest point in town is apx. 2,300 feet going up to maybe 2,600 feet at the highest point in town. There is a large mountain nearby town (Flat Top Mt.) its peak is slightly over 3,400 feet.

I feel that your information about the average amount of snowfall (18.5 in) may be incorrect also. I have not had a chance to research it yet, but I feel the average snowfall amount would at least be in the range of 23 to 29 inches. Depending on the weather for the winter season it is not uncommon for us to get several inches of snow at a time. Given our elevation and micro-climate situation we get more snow than nearby communities. This from personal experience. Before my family and I moved to Crumpler about 27 years ago we lived in the community of Worth, WV (Elevation of Worth, WV apx. 1,900 feet) Worth is apx. 4 miles away from Crumpler. There would be people that would tell us how bad the wintry weather was in Crumpler. Personally I thought they were pulling my leg, given that Crumpler was just a short drive away. But after moving here I have had to eat crow. Those few hundred feet difference in elevation makes all the difference in the world as to what type of precip that you may get.
