HI there, So I know your post is a few years old, but wanted to just say that while you're right that we don't have many African Americans living here, my Af. Am. friend Nia (from All) who married a white guy has moved here after commuting for 3 months. At first, she was cautious about the fact that obviously, she stood out as a MAJOR minority, but everyone is loving and accepting and she hasn't found any racism (yet) here in Ellijay. We have a loving church, Autumn Ridge Community Church and she can see herself raising bi-racial kids in this sweet community. Not so say that perhaps a small minded person might one day come along, but so far so good. I totally get your concern, since it's mostly white and latino around here. And I don't find that the two cultures even intermingle much outside schools (at my Karate Studio we do haha), unless it's latino from Miami, I love my neighbors! Also I have an African-American (law enforcement and military background-she gets respect for her service, I've seen first hand randos giving her hugs and thanks for her service) neighbor married to a white woman and they feel loved and accepted here as well as a gay couple. SO, on my street, we have a good multi-racial mix. Lots of love in Ellijay, people let others live their lives in peace, in a peaceful environment. It's a small town with a beautiful heart in the most amazing setting still just an hour from Atlanta for all the big city conveniences. I'm a realtor, look me up Julia Krusac if you're interested in knowing more about this community I love and plan on living in forever- Lord willing! And about people carrying firearms, it's a fact that in cultures where the right to bear arms is removed, the people have simply no recourse against tyranny. So, even if you don't understand it, it's a beautiful thing if you understand history of government hostility (exhibit A: Venezuela). But these are the friendliest gun wearing folks! I never even think about it, I just notices lots of comments in these posts about the fact that Ellijanes and Ellijons carry. Some do, most don't, but it's not like that actually ever comes up. Wine, kayaking, tubing, hiking, dogs, mountains, Jeeps, that comes up a lot. So either if you just want to spend some time picking apples in the fall, or a weekend curled up on a river reading a book... the internet might stink but you'll have a great time, being human in a lovely place, no matter the color of your skin, in my opinion. Cheers!
