Angry? without a question you just exposed your own anger and judgement about this beautiful town. I lived in Detroit, Chicago, West Palm Beach Fla and lived in Multi color neighborhoods throughout most of my life. Moving to Ellijay in 1996 was the best decision I ever made for myself and family. Most of your post is just full of Racist blather because you seem to have issues. Ellijay is growing and diversifying, a lot since i moved here. My suggestion to you is move to California where you will find a lot of diversification of feces on the streets, high crime rates and plenty of free stuff

You can live in an area with high crime to 'feel' safe because of the racial makeup if that is what you are looking for.A lot of people who look like me do not like to go to Atlanta (The City Too Busy To Hate) because of crime.I worked in Atlanta for 27 years.I was robbed at gunpoint twice and knife point once.If you are looking for racial reasons to not live somewhere you are of a racist nature and would feel safer knowing your children have to go through metal detectors to walk into a school.

It sounds like you are the racist here. Stay in California then, and stop demonizing and spreading lies about people you know nothing about. You should be ashamed.

HI there, So I know your post is a few years old, but wanted to just say that while you're right that we don't have many African Americans living here, my Af. Am. friend Nia (from All) who married a white guy has moved here after commuting for 3 months. At first, she was cautious about the fact that obviously, she stood out as a MAJOR minority, but everyone is loving and accepting and she hasn't found any racism (yet) here in Ellijay. We have a loving church, Autumn Ridge Community Church and she can see herself raising bi-racial kids in this sweet community. Not so say that perhaps a small minded person might one day come along, but so far so good. I totally get your concern, since it's mostly white and latino around here. And I don't find that the two cultures even intermingle much outside schools (at my Karate Studio we do haha), unless it's latino from Miami, I love my neighbors! Also I have an African-American (law enforcement and military background-she gets respect for her service, I've seen first hand randos giving her hugs and thanks for her service) neighbor married to a white woman and they feel loved and accepted here as well as a gay couple. SO, on my street, we have a good multi-racial mix. Lots of love in Ellijay, people let others live their lives in peace, in a peaceful environment. It's a small town with a beautiful heart in the most amazing setting still just an hour from Atlanta for all the big city conveniences. I'm a realtor, look me up Julia Krusac if you're interested in knowing more about this community I love and plan on living in forever- Lord willing! And about people carrying firearms, it's a fact that in cultures where the right to bear arms is removed, the people have simply no recourse against tyranny. So, even if you don't understand it, it's a beautiful thing if you understand history of government hostility (exhibit A: Venezuela). But these are the friendliest gun wearing folks! I never even think about it, I just notices lots of comments in these posts about the fact that Ellijanes and Ellijons carry. Some do, most don't, but it's not like that actually ever comes up. Wine, kayaking, tubing, hiking, dogs, mountains, Jeeps, that comes up a lot. So either if you just want to spend some time picking apples in the fall, or a weekend curled up on a river reading a book... the internet might stink but you'll have a great time, being human in a lovely place, no matter the color of your skin, in my opinion. Cheers!

You're not crazy to notice this lack of diversity. I've lived in Ellijay for six years, and am familiar with California as well as nearby Atlanta where I'm originally from. The sector stretching from Jasper to Blue Ridge is rapidly growing so much that there is an insufficient number of homes. Developers have been ceasing the opportunities. Since it is still a part of the old south of Georgia, it is predominantly white, however, with its growth diversity is expanding. I've seen black, east Indian, and Asian families, and other demographics unexpected in this area. While I won't deny there is a presence of white supremacists its not to the point of any real danger. Assuming growth continues, this too will change. But out of my love for California, I much rather call Sonoma county my home.

I don’t want Ellijay to “change” anymore. Last thing we need is California racist liberals telling us no one looks like them…. telling us we are scary. Move to The West End. We do not want to be like California.

No lynching but I don’t think your kids would have an easy time in school. Plenty of white trash rednecks and probably a KKK chapter. You’d need to go south at least to Marietta.

This is a good question. For people who don't understand or had to live this they will not understand. I found this comment because I literally was googling the same thing. We are an interracial couple and taking a family trip. Every place we have looked at I have googled to see if it's a safe area for my family and I. Unfortunately being in the south along with the hateful climate that has been brought BACK to the forefront it is a scary situation. Even in the small town we live in here in the south. I have had a gun pulled on me and my sons while simply driving home. Been ran off the road by truck with Confederate flags. This of course was all before I got my concealed. Again those who don't understand will never know what we go through. But they may research their trips or move to make sure they stay away from majority black communities. Do what you need to for the safety of your family.

Hi.. I know your post is old but that is mighty racial of you... I will take a wild quess that if your are in fact concerned for the safety of your kids,, as we all are... Then I know for fact they would be safer in Ellijay as opposed to Marietta where your tag says you are from.. "Lynch us" umm if you can find any lynchings in Ellijay in this century.. I'll stand corrected... Here you do not have to lock your doors.. give that a try in that in Metro area of Atlanta... Enjoy your crime rate down there..
