Shocked at the "Air Quality" rating!
Star Rating - 7/11/2010
I lived in Warren back in the early 70's, and returned for a brief visit a couple of years ago, and in both instances, my experience was the same. The air in Warren is permeated with the petroleum smells given off by the oil refinery on the east end of town, and eventually an oily film covers everything in the town, including your lungs. If Sperling's air quality ratings don't take such permanent air pollution into account, they need to be taken with a huge grain of salt.

I totally agree with Tom from Tarrytown. I lived in West Warren for 10 years. Then I moved to East Warren about 4 blocks above the refinery. The oily rags smell of the refinery is just about an everyday thing. The gasoline smell was so bad tonight that I had to go inside. But when I got in the house the smell was twice as bad inside as it was outside. We have lived here for 2 years and my husband is now having lung problems. We need to move far away from this refinery as soon as possible. Yes, the canoeing and hiking and swimming are beautiful here. Unless you live near the refinery. It's not worth the lung damage.

What a bunch of crap! "oily film covers everything"... must be someone with a beef with the fossil fuel industry. The refinery does have an odor at times, but all refineries do. We have one here in Colorado and it has an odor. You might find this odd, but most people don't hang out at the refinery. 8/ You will typically find folks floating the river, boating on the reservoir, swimming at Jake's Rocks, hunting or doing some other outdoor activity. My kids prefer to go back to Warren than to any other place we have visited. Damn refinery!!!
