Review of Newton, Iowa

It's What You Make of It
Star Rating - 1/8/2013
Having lived in Newton for over 23 years, I have seen the face of the community change. It hasn't always been good change, but the town has done much to try to make up for the loss of Maytag Corporation and is continuing its efforts to entice new business to the community. Life's simple pleasures are still abundant and readily available to all. There are many small city and county parks and recreation areas, as well as larger natural state and federal attractions within an hours drive. Newton has many churches and civic and cultural entities are available. The Iowa Speedway is located here and draws many thousands of visitors to multiple events in the spring and summer months. Hunting and fishing opportunities are plentiful and practiced widely. The town is friendly and neighbors are helpful. Retail businesses have to run against competition from nearby Des Moines. Our three main employers consist of the local hospital and two factories who each are involved in the wind energy industry.
