FOOD SHELF:
Wild River Services (WRS), located in the old Community Center opens its doors to the people in the under-served, under-serviced corridors of Aitkin, Pine, Carlton, Kanabec and Mille Lacs counties - those furthest away from their own county's resources. Hours are from Noon to 5pm, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. All are welcome.
MCGRATH AREA COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION (MACO):
An organization combining resources and support for community strength. Actively supporting the McGrath Youth Community Garden, the Mille Lacs Area Pages (www.millelacsareapages.com), the IMPACT Food Shelf offered by WRS, in addition to hosting regularly-scheduled activities and events throughout the year to bring families together - Ballgames, Sledding, Holiday events, etc. All are welcome!
MCGRATH YOUTH COMMUNITY GARDEN:
This Spring (2010) is our 2nd year of working with this community project. Excess veggies went to area elderly, while this year they will also be offered as healthy Food Shelf choices, providing locally-grown, nutritious produce to area residents in need.
In addition, the youth and adult volunteers market their veggies at the local Farmers' Markets, providing income to make this a self-sustaining garden in the future.
BEAR CREEK CDC (Community Development Center):
How can we help you succeed?
Bear Creek CDC, with the Community Investment Initiative, sponsored the area
COMMUNITY COMPUTER LAB located in McGrath to provide computer access for those who otherwise would have none. Skill levels vary, with support given to those who need added direction and skills.
Do you have a business idea and need help getting it up and running? Bear Creek CDC is here to help you succeed.
MCGRATH COMMUNITY LIBRARY:
Located temporarily at Vie's (on Highway 65),the Community Library is open to all age groups. Books have been donated and/or earned through various reading programs and provides the opportunity to take the books home on a check-out basis or read in the back room, if preferred. All are welcome.
The biggest and best burgers in the nation can be found at Vie's, by the way: You haven't had a burger 'til you've eaten one of Vie's burgers!
SOO LINE Access:
The Soo line trail comes through McGrath and gives easy access to four-wheelers to stop and participate in any of the events that McGrath offers. Come and check us out - We are getting better every year!!
