Review of Huntington, Indiana

Huntington City / County Indiana
Star Rating - 1/17/2006
Huntington County is located in the heart of America’s heartland. Area residents enjoy the close proximity of Fort Wayne- Indiana’s second largest city- only 25 minutes away and is surrounded by a substantial network of state and federal highways. History - Native Americans enjoyed the region’s wealth of natural resources- abundant game, navigable waterways, and flint for tools- for thousands of years. The Wabash and Erie Canal linked Huntington and Fort Wayne in 1835, opening Indiana and the entire Midwest to settlement. Incorporated in 1848, Huntington was named for Samuel Huntington, Governor of Connecticut and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Huntington County continues to make history in the modern era. Dan Quayle, the 44th Vice-president and the fifth Hoosier to hold that office, calls Huntington home.

Huntington today - Huntington County welcomes newcomers with an appealing variety of homes. Our country lanes and quiet neighborhoods offer something for everyone- from executive homes to affordable apartments, from spacious houses for growing families to snug residences for senior citizens. Residents of Huntington County are fortunate to have many educational opportunities. Area schools, both public and private, provide educational opportunities for citizens in preschool through post-graduate settings. The community is served by two accredited parochial elementary schools, a countywide public school corporation, and an four-year liberal arts university.

Health care - Huntington County’s healthcare centers around Parkview Huntington Hospital, an acute care medical facility that offers inpatient and outpatient services.

Amenities - The Huntington Courthouse Square Historic District, in the heart of the county, is filled with locally-owned specialty shops, restaurants, apartments, and offices. Elegantly restored old buildings dating back to the 1800’s, planters filled with beautiful blooms, and period streetlamps add warmth and charm to the downtown shopping area.

Huntington County offers many distinctive advantages to business and industry: a skilled labor force with a solid work ethic, infrastructure improvements conducive to industrial growth, access to major transportation arteries, and excellent cooperation between the public and private sectors. In addition, modest real estate prices, low office rents and favorable property taxes make the county highly attractive to savvy business leaders.
